My sister’s essay? Could you edit it to make it “sparkle” [is the word she used?

TWiFAN asked:

The use of tobacco from the teens in the US is way too towering. The NHIS 2003 National Center for Health Statistics says that in the US 43.3% of the people are smokers, 19.2% women and 24.1% men. Why are the numbers up so high? I say because the pressure on the young teens is incredibly high. When our teens are pressured to use drugs they usually do not consider about how it will influence their life in the future, they are concerned about what others would think of them. If I were pressured to use tobacco, I would think about how is it going to affect my body, how is this going to affect my life, how will it affect others around me, how will I feel? If everyone would think about these questions, we would have this crisis off our shoulders.
If we were to stop selling tobacco products, we would have less cancer, sickness, and health issues. Although we would be taking away money from the tobacco companies and from the doctors that treat the tobacco users but, we would put the danger down of losing lives. If we make all tobacco products against the law, then we have another drug we have to keep others away from like crack/cocaine, marijuana, inhalants, ecstasy, methamphetamine/meth, LSD, and heroin. We would have more drug dealers and lawbreakers if this were to happen. Although we would have less lives at risk.
The American Lung Association said; that almost 6,000 teens under the age of 18 start smoking, 2,000 of these become regular smokers. If we were to take away tobacco products we would have those high numbers gone. Would that be nice?
How do we get our teens out of the atmosphere of tobacco use? One, they should have a good environment at home, a place where there is time with family and parents that are in touch with their children’s lives. Two, they should have a safe environment at school too. If the teachers know what the children are going through with friends, there would be less difficulty there. Third, when our teens are just out with their friends, they should feel okay saying “no” to their friends when tempted to use tobacco products.
The health of our new generation is at risk too. With Second-Hand-Smoke, children are not even smoking and the smokers are killing them. We have to stop this. How? We can start helping more people who smoke by setting up more treatment centers to help those who want to live a smoke-free life. We need to stop this addiction to nicotine. All these people are dying because they made wrong choice when they were young. We can talk to teenagers more about how treacherous this is.
What if everyone had a goal in life, to never use or be around anyone who is using tobacco products? Our world would have one more thing off its list of troubles. I have a goal in life. It is to NEVER use or touch tobacco products. I will not even be around with people who use tobacco, that way I will never have to worry about Second-Hand Smoke, or being tempted to use tobacco. We need a change.

thanks!!! :D

Why do we live a Big Lie?

fAD G asked:

All of your life, you’ve been lied to. You’ve been told what life is supposed to be about. Grow up, do well in school, make friends, get a girlfriend or boyfriend, get a good job, get married, get a nice house and have kids. Watch tv, go to church, vote, find some hobbies to entertain you. Donate money to charity. Go on vacation. Get old, retire, spend time with the grandkids. Look back on your life with nostalgia, look forward to the afterlife of your choosing. This is what you’re supposed to do, this is what normal people do. This is what everyone else is doing. Oh sure, there are a few aberrations here and there, sometimes some people slip off this track, but you can get back on at any time. Of course, when you actually look at the world around you, you may see something entirely different. See that young married couple living next door, with the wife gardening in the front yard while the kids play out back? She’s snowed under with Xanax all the time, without which she’d be in a continuous state of anxiety. And her 6 year old son, he’s following in mom’s footsteps already, taking his daily dose of Ritalin to keep him tranquil enough to sit still all day at school. She stopped sleeping with her husband several years ago, but that’s ok, cause he sneaks off a couple times a week and has sex with street prostitutes in the back seat of his car, or a nearby motel. He feels a bit bad for them, and tips them extra. His favorite prostitute is always glad to see him, because he’s pleasant enough and an easy $75. Too bad they can’t all be like him. She gets beaten up and raped by johns multiple times a year, but that’s ok, she can handle it, cause even at its worst this job is still better than what she went through as a child. Besides, there’s no other way she could support her crack cocaine habit. And the cop who tries to arrest her, last night he arrested the neighborhood marijuana dealer, then went home and got nice and legally drunk on jack daniels. And the cop’s daughter, the pretty high school cheerleader, sneaks off and vomits after every meal so she won’t get fat.But these are all small scale problems. Don’t forget that, several times a century, often enough to happen at least once during the average human lifetime, all the most powerful nations of the world divide up into sides and begin slaughtering anyone they can find on the opposing side by the millions. This is agreed by all to be unfortunate but necessary. And the city you live in, if you’re in a western country and living in a city, has already been targetted by some country’s nuclear weaponry. A few pushes of the right buttons, and you’ll be vaporized, or survive and live in some radioactive wasteland. But that’s ok, because it probably won’t happen in the immediate future, so you might as well go out and buy the week’s groceries. Beneath the thin veneer of civilization lies a howling madness, and the average normal human being has the ability to commit genocide during the day, then come home and tuck the kids in at night, or to ignore the pain of a billion people in misery while mowing the lawn or doing christmas shopping. The Big Lie is that all of the problems of human life are separate. If you compartmentalize them all, you can convince yourself that once you lose that 40 pounds, or get more money, or get your husband to stop beating you, or finally kick that addiction, you’ll be a normal happy person like everyone else. And once you get the right politician elected, or win the war, or convert the infidels to your religion, the world will be a happy place. The problems of life are all symptoms of the same cause. The locks on your doors which you need to keep out burglars, the schoolyard bully, the serial killer, the drug addict, the drug dealer, the billionaire who thinks he’s being exploited by the poor, the millions of soldiers fighting for peace, the enslavement or slaughter of entire races of people, and your own unhappiness, all are interconnected. They are all part of one problem. I wish I could define the problem for you, or offer a solution. Human beings seem to have a basic design flaw. We’re a fucked up species, striving to be healthy and happy while simultaneously destroying ourselves and each other in a million different ways. The only positive note I can end this on is that it’s better to understand all this than to be
ignorant of it, I think.

My real question is why we abide a lie in lame secret instead of being open and accepting of it?

When dealing with an addict family member or partner do you find yourself angry?

Beige Brown Blues asked:

I have had two wealthy boyfriends with substance abuse issues.

Jake was sexually abused as a child, and mistreated by the revolving door of his mothers ex-boyfriends. He struggles for years with alcohol abuse and weed issues until he moved on to crack cocaine.

Becasue his grand parents gave him whatever he wished….he had no incentive to stop.

My current boyfriend is a resident pediatrician. He was raised in a loving wealthy family and graduated Ivy League. His brother spent years battling alcohol addiction at the age of 22 and now he,29, has been forced to enter an inpatient facility.

I am 26 years old. I work two jobs. I am a communications assistant and bartender. My estranged family treated me like a stranger in my formative years, and my mother would often beat me for no reason. I am achieving some success in my life and if i drink…I will have a glass or two….none on weekdays. I battle everyday to overcome my social fears and loneliness.

I am angry that my BF who has everything refused to take hold of his charmed life. Im openly supportive of him and he in no way knows that I feel this way. Have you ever felt this way? What can I do?

okay so it goes like this,,(just listen please)?

amanda? asked:

so alot of the “cool kids” do drugs in my highschool(0o0ohh, shocker right?)

anyways, theres a group of the “popular girls” who are practically ruining their lives. They started smoking weed, and now are on bigger things, like crack/cocaine, herion, acid, shrooms, you know.

and everyone of them insists that they dont have problems, or addictions. and its really sad, because none of them have really reilized how much shhit they have gotten them selvs into. i mean, some of the girls have even gone to juvi, and rehab. but yet, THEY STILL HAVENT LEARNED THEIR LESSON.

they just go around, like their the greatest things, and the sad part is, their all prolly gonna die before they turn 25.

why do people do what they do? i mean, is there nothing else on this planet to do other than ruin their bodies and minds with drugs??? where are everyones morals? where the helll are everyones parents?

i just wish that these girls would reilize that they’re turning there lives into worthless nothings, you know?

What do you make of a boss who falls for this type?

brainless banana asked:

A co-worker who is some other guy’s common law wife, is formerly homeless, a crack cocaine addict who overindulges in alcohol and pot to control her addictions, is manic-depressive and refuses treatment, has a violent son who can’t be babysat by anyone, is violent herself, is a harasser who causes people to quit or sue, never bathes herself and has dirty hair and wears the same clothes all the time, doesn’t eat or sleep, yells and swears at people and gets into fights. Is this an ideal or what? He is completely infatuated by her. She is even his favourite employee. Ironically he has a girlfriend but she is taking classes in another city and doesn’t live here. Is it desperation or what?
Also weighs about ninety pounds at 5″7, is functionally illiterate and a control freak obsessed with perfectly aligned items.
I actually feel sorry for her and hope she gets the help she needs but I can’t imagine why a guy would pass up some of the beautiful, fashionable, loyal, intelligent, funny, outgoing, charming and pleasant women in this town who do not have any of these problems. And what about his girlfriend? Doesn’t she deserve better? If he had to cheat, couldn’t he at least come up with something better than that?

Should Salvia be illegal?

Gabe asked:

I’m 17 and have done Salvia Divinorum. I have smoked weed as well, but as many educated peers these days that i know also stick to organic stuff like marijuana, salvia, and maybe shrooms if theyre daring enough to break the law to that extent. (I personally don’t involve myself with anything that’s not decriminalized. DEFINITELY, no cocaine, crack, acid, pcp, meth, heroine, ecstasy…. none of that shit. Those drugs are what will turn you into a real dysfunctional person.) I’m not a “Salvia-head”, and even though i have a job, i definitely wont spend all my money on Salvia and can prioritize my paycheck money with ease. I’m not addicted at all. Rarely, maybe when i do have spendable money, i will start to smoke Salvia since i can buy an ounce online incredibly cheap, mostly just to sell since it’s not only legal, but unbelievably overpriced in stores. I mean it’s not dealing if you’re selling legal herbs right? My question is should it be?

I mean, if you have the information on it, that its a psychoactive herb that can alter your vision and whatnot slightly, making you “trip” i mean how many people are gonna spark up their bongs/bubblers(which can get pretty big and teteous to do on-the-go..) on their way to work in the car? i mean really public use should be illegal like public intoxication but to a much higher penalty, but really it has no addicting chemicals in it, and if u wanna talk about addiction im talking about withdrawal symptoms after “quitting” or “stopping” not addiction like how i could live off pizza every meal. Should it be illegal? I think 18 and up should be the age, like cigarettes. I figure the govt. should just tax it and maybe try to regulate it. But banning it is not the answer, as i feel like it has slightly allowed me to think completely out of the box 100x easier. Embrace, don’t hate, USA. What do you guys think?

And if you would like to talk about past experiences id like to hear about people who’ve done it more than once. The first time was a shock to me too, that that kind of legal herb could do such things to my mind when ingested. But after the next few times i got used to NOT being in full control for a bit and it got a lot better just watching the visions create themselves. Humans have smoked herbs socially and for recreational purposes for centuries… why should we stop now? Free time is free time. I like finally having something fun to do that doesn’t harm anyone.

Lily’s Maa-ma! asked:

Isn’t cocaine like the “mother drug” of crank and crack? And what is the difference between crank and crack? And are methanphetamines the same thing as speed? Or are they different? Then I heard that crank is the same thing as methanphetamines which is the same thing as speed.
