My sister is addicted to crack. She keeps getting disgusting infections. How to help her?

Intervention. Drag her to recovery which is what you’ll have to do. You can’t just ask addicts what they want to do.

1. Call the cops, and arrange for her to be put into rehab. Hopefully that might help.

2. She is obviously being dirty and not using any clean needles, nor alcohol to clean the injection site… She is self-destructive. What a sad waste of a great human being…

3. Do NOT give or lend her anything, money, house keys, food, car, etc. It will all end up sold or traded for drugs.

I am really sorry but, I went through all this before, and you cannot change someone else’s mind or life style.

They will put you on a guilt trip and lie to get what ever you have.

The most loving thing is to get her committed to a rehab program.

I’m really sorry! If she is addicted to that because of her friends you have to get her away from her friends because they’ll just say to her that her brother(you) is crazy and doesnt know whats best for her!1 Then you can take her to a recovery center like coalie said!!

Ive never dealt with anything like that, but u need to put her in a clininc, tell her its not an option, she will die if you dont do something ASAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gather the crew, and forcefully take her to a program.
Although you probably will be reluctant to do this but it will be the only way, if she doesn’t want to help herself. There’s no easy way to do this. In the end, she’ll appreciate it.

Wow…sorry to hear that but she needs a good treatment program…..and hate to say this…but the best thing for her would be if she got arrested….they could force her into a treatment program.

No addict will get better until THEY decide thats what they want.

First, do not try to “stage an intervention” without professional help. If you fail, you could lose her forever. This is not for amateurs. In an intervention (unlike Jerry Springer and other talk shows) all the people are trained ahead of time. Arrangements are made for the addict to go straight to rehab. A professional substance abuse counselor sets up the entire intervention. All participants in an intervention MUST be trained ahead of time.

Second, get yourself to an Alanon or Codependents Anonymous meeting. Addiction affects the entire circle of family and friends, not just the addicted person. Because of the drug your lives are all out of control That is the first of the 12 steps. You cannot fix her. You need an army of help. Been there, done that, got the t-shirt. Please believe me.

Third, get your parents and other significant people in her life involved. Preaching to her will do nothing but drive her away.

Fourth, insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

Yes she can get all kinds of things from unclean needles including hepatitis C and HIV/AIDS. Addiction is not rational. It is the opposite of rational. You can’t have a discussion with it or reason with it or convince it that it is bad.
