Usually people take large doses of robitussin for the DXM or Dextromethorphan. It can come in liquid, or pill form, I believe.

Here’s what I read about it:

“High doses of DXM can cause the inability to move arms or legs or to talk, slowed breathing, permanent brain damage, cerebral hemorrhages, stroke, and even death (from stopped breathing.) In addition, individuals risk hypothermia (exceptionally high fever), particularly if they use the drug in a hot environment or while physically exerting themselves—such as at a rave or danceclub.
x Other risks associated with DXM abuse include nausea, abdominal pain, vomiting, irregular heartbeat, high blood pressure, headache, numbness of fingers and toes, loss of consciousness, seizures, and even death. ”

Okay, but remember, crack cocaine can kill too but that doesn’t mean that everyone who takes a lot of it will die from it. There could be no side effects at all (other than the high I’m sure this person was trying to get)

If it gets too much, a persons body will usually try and throw it up, so I’d say if that happens, good. But with personal experience as a stupid kid, I know people who have suffered brain damage from long term heay use. Then again, I know people who are still alright. That’s not to say there was no damage. but it wasn’t noticable and they’re at least not dead.

This person shouldn’t be risking it though….But anyway here’s some more info for you:
